Bedford New Hampshire schools get new playgrounds |
|
|
Residents, teachers, students and community volunteers have
worked hard on fundraising and planning to bring to Bedford schools these
wonderful new facilities for McKelvie and Woodbury students…good job to
all…this is just another great reason why so many families choose to purchase
Bedford NH real estate and to make Bedford NH their home.
BEDFORD NH– After two years of
fundraising, McKelvie Intermediate School is finally getting that play
structure.
The playground is a structure is great for fifth- and sixth-graders, because it
helps build upper body strength.
It’s an Evos brand play structure, which has no obvious entrances or exits and
thus encourages a creative approach from the kids, according to the
manufacturer’s online description.
And there are lots of things to grab onto, but no walkways or flat platforms
where kids would be less likely to use their arms.
McKelvie students have helped to raise $47,000 for the structure over the last
two years, primarily through their Move-A-Thon events.
The last $1,000 they needed came from sales of the $5 student directory.
But the fundraising won’t stop there – and neither will the playground.
The structure will be located where a set of bleachers now stands, next to the
pavement and basketball hoops.
The next phase of the project is to replace those hoops with a swing-set, and then to build a pavilion.
Thanks to a gift of about $45,000 from the Bedford Basketball League ,a new
basketball court, to be located near Liberty Hill Road, where a T-Ball field
not stands will be built (if it clears Planning Board approvals).
The new basketball court would be the only public court in Bedford south of
Route 101.
There are also future plans for the
installation of a new swing set.

Woodbury School, Bedford NH gets new playground…..
A group effort including teachers, parents and students, have been planning and
fundraising for a new playground.
The new playground incorporates natural elements to promote open-ended play and
interaction with nature, an idea based on the principles of Richard Louv’s book
Last Child in the Woods.
They’ve raised close to half of the $150,000 they need to get it all done, and
are using that money to pay for some of the construction.
In the next couple of weeks, work will commence
on the new playground, vegetable garden and shed, with assistance from a group
of volunteers.
Fundraising and project work will continue in the fall.
When the kids come back to school in September, they’ll find new traditional
play equipment, new swings, a boulder wall with a sand pit, and new vegetable
gardens.
