The question everyone is asking, when are my Bedford NH property taxes going to go down like my property value?
The State of New Hampshire requires all towns to establish new real property values every five years.
Bedford had to perform a complete revaluation for 2004. They had their first update for April 1, 2008 and the next update/re-assessment is scheduled for April 1, 2013.
Remember, this is when they will attempt to bring all values of real property in the Town of Bedford in line. Some will go up and some will go down. Hopefully values will have stabilized by then. And just because the values are adjusted it doesn't mean your taxes will go down. The town needs the same amount of money to operate, regardless of property values. If the total values go down across the board, then the town's mill rate will go up so the town can raise the same amount of money they need to operate.
Property owners can apply for a review if they feel their assessment is higher than like properties in town.
